an organized mess

09:12

I think it's safe to say that for 95% of the year, my desk is in complete ruins. Cards from cute shops that I don't have the heart to throw away, old bottles of suspicious-looking nail polish, that hairtie I can never find when I actually need it, and old homework haphazardly done all swept across my desk, making it impossible to concentrate.

But finally, I mustered the courage (and time) to clear the months-worth of clutter invading my workspace to reveal - surprise - a white desk! The hours of scrolling through Tumblr and Pinterest could finally be put to use, and the result is a brand new work area that I'm really happy with for now :-)

As I work, I enjoy having a drink with me - today I had a blueberry, banana and strawberry smoothie.
Collection of magazines - My favorite reads are Kinfolk, Yen, Frankie, Cereal, Home & Decor Singapore, SquareRooms, and Nylon

And finally, to end this post, I thought I'd share some of my tips for organizing your workspace:

1. Light Colors

I find it easiest to work when the atmosphere is bright and clean, so I tend to go for white walls, desks, and light woods. (Unfortunately, my room isn't white, but my mint green walls still help the space look bigger) Go for whatever color you prefer, but if you do have a small-er space, light shades tend to open up the space.

2. Accents

I like Scandinavian design, which tends to have a monochrome color palette. However, I still like to add some accents - I went for yellow and mustard, but you can use any color to add to your whites, greys, and blacks. Also, I love the metallic trend going on - so far, I have a bit of silver and copper in my room.

3. Wall Space

Use the walls - I have a corkboard that I use to display snippets of inspiration, and I have wall art (quotes, posters, my own artwork) everywhere. It works as both a design element and a personal motivator :)

4. Storage

Boxes, boxes, boxes!! I am a bit box-crazy, but they can store a lot and help keep your workspace looking very clean. Stacking them on your desk means all your stationary, wires and miscellaneous objects are still accessible but don't take up too much space

5. Look for Inspiration

Go online for some inspiration - I can honestly spend hours on Pinterest. If you have spare change, use those coins to buy a design magazine.

Hope you enjoyed these photos and tips! I hope it helps you get some inspiration if you're looking to update your workspace :-)
