effortlessly chic

One of my all-time favorite style icons, Alexa Chung

"Looking effortless takes a lot of effort" - I absolutely believe in echoing the words of Alexa Chung. It's not easy to pull of that perfect casual outfit, especially when you want to give it that effortless quality. And again, I'm no fashion expert - I'm still an amateur, but I do have some tips on how I think you can pull of that carefree appearance.

Wardrobe Essentials

Ripped jeans - these are an absolute wardrobe staple. I can wear them with almost anything, and while high-quality denim pieces can get pricey, I've gotten so much use out of them. (Also, I'm more of a skinny jeans/skirt kind of gal, rather than shorts)

Sweaters - now for me, this part is highly ironic, because I live just one degree north of the equator, and it's almost always 30 degrees outside. However, sweaters are still one of my favorite things to wear; oversized sweaters, turtlenecks and cableknits are some of my favorites.

Shoulder bags - the Celine trio and the classic Chanel flap bag are two of my favorite shoulder bags, but some of my favorite wallet-friendly options are the American Apparel canvas shoulder bag and the Country Road tote (not exactly a shoulder bag, but I thought I'd just include it because its so darn cute). The two latter bags I've mentioned are not very structured, but I prefer that loose element in coming up with a simple outfit.

Plain white top - these are my favorites. They don't need any embellishment! I often just tuck them into some black skinnies and put on my favorite shoes (a pair of amazing
shoes from Senso would work so well) and a coat/jacket/pullover if its cold (which in Singapore means air-conditions malls) I can wear these for days like meetups with friends or movie night.

On a little side note, your hairstyle plays a huge role in completing your effortlessly chic look! I'd go with a rough tousled look, or a sleek low ponytail.

That's about it! It's been a really wordy post, but I hope it's been helpful.

Again, thank you for all the support coming in from my tumblr, I appreciate all your comments! <3

More to come tomorrow!
